Training for Scott and Kona - hurt box time!

03 October 2008

...since the last time I wrote, I have been perpetually busy.

We had our course at You Yangs and had a great day.  The weather held out ok and I know my group worked really hard on all the climbs and descents we tackled.

After the skills course we held our RDS skills session on the Link Track in the uphill version.  Some falls of course occured, but who would have guessed that on our way back to the car park that our mate "lacey Knickers" would have an O.T.H(over the handlebars) incident on one of those stupid jumps, that simulate a waterbar, kick you up on the other side of the jump.  Thankfully David is ok, albeit a cracked verterbrae!  But you should have seen his helmet, if you are not wearing you helmet these days, you are a dick head!

Calum, Jess, Adam and NormThe following week my young steed Calum came out to Forrest from Colac for some hill and MTB Training.  We had some great rides doing hill repeats up the road and MTB hill repeats plus night riding galore.  We even went to Apollo Bay on the MTB 's for ice cream.

The week culminated in a weekend away to Bendigo for camping and MTB race, Bendigo's 6 hour MTB enduro.  There were around 12 of the Race Development Squad in attendance too.

PhotobucketWe had some great results with LIz and Calum coming 1st in Mixed pairs.

Sara came 3rd in Female Solo.

...and I came 1st in Solo Female.  Thank Normie for some great help on the weekend with all your advice, support and mechanical know how on sorting out the bikes.  Without you we would not have done so well.

Jeremy Norm and Stewie were proud to show off their six packs whilst doing some bike maintenance.

Since the Bendigo 6 hour, I did my final hit out for long stuff with Phil, Calum, Adam and Liz.
The plan was to do 250km, leave at 7am and see how we went.

PIC-0188.jpgThe ride was leaving Forrest riding up to Turtons Tk, across to Beech Forrest, Lavers HIll, Glenaire, Cape Otway, Apollo Bay, up the Skenes Ck hill, to Tanybryn, back to Turtons tk and go again.

At Apollo Bay we said by to Lizzie who only ever wanted to do 100km.

Then there were four....

We then said bye bye to Calum at the top of Skenes due to a corked thigh from the Bendigo race.

Onward we go, Adam, Phil and Me.  Starting to fade on the little uphills I was, Phil was energetic, Adam was holding a poker face.  We rode onto Beech Forrest, toilet stop for 5 min and decided to head onto Lavers Hill.  Had coffee and thats when Adam shared his poker hand with us, he got a lift back with support vehicle Normie and Liz.  So it was just Phil and I .

Phil had to look after me on the uphills again.  I was really tired.  But when we got to Barramunga, I was like a trail horse heading home for the stables.  Bye bye Phil...and for the next 6kms I was fresh as daisy again.  Total distance was 210km on the road bike today with 3500mts climbed in total.

As I write this on Monday 6th October, it is 5 days to go until my world of pain and suffering will be upon me.  Cant wait.  24 hour solo at Scott 24 hour.  Very excited.

Will let you know how things pan out next week.
