I just spent last weekend in the hurt box. Not sure that I enjoyed it much but I did get some awesome mental toughness training out of it.
Day 1 - Saturday 23rd May. Preston Mountain Classic Handicap Road Race. About 73km in distance. My 2nd road race for the year I was a little scared of riding in a big bunch of around 25, knowing that we would hit the pace from the word go...and with Hills. My hill climbing is feeling pretty weak at the moment after the solo 24 hr effort. So we started out staying together and a with a few times of nearly being dropped, I continued to work hard to stay on. My gosh the politics in a bunch. Especially Mr. Specialised Pink Jersey, he was the ring leader and he was totally onto but rubbed some people up the wrong way for sure. I could deal with it and quite enjoyed the lack of responsibility - just ride attitude that I could employ.
So last week we were up in Beechworth for the Six Hours in The Saddle. There was a whole house full of people, I think there was about 17 of us out to dinner the next night too!
Anyway, Liz and I raced in Female Pairs, thankfully! What a rocky course. Normie boy started his training for Male Solo 40+. Stewie, Phil, Adam, Julian, Gavin all raced solo, with Juppy and Beth in mixed pairs, Joe & Russ, Tony & Colin in Male Pairs. Great day, amazingly good weather considering the rain and wind we had prior to race day.
I cant believe how fast its gone, Sunday was 4 weeks since I won the National 24hr SOLO Champs in Canberra.
We are busy with MTB Skills. Saskia is doing awesome at Netball and loving it. She cooked me dinner for mothers day too! We did a fun night ride at the You Yangs last night too. Training is going to plan. Sleep is awesome. I have started Bikram yoga (3 weeks ago) and love it. Canada is booked and paid for. Accomodation is sorted. Its all coming together.
11 weeks to go now. It will go so quickly too I am sure.
