Round 1, Vic State Enduro Series PDF Print
Sunday, 25 February 2007

Temperature: HOT…very hot!  41 degrees.

The forecast for the weekend of 17th & 18th of February was going to be hot all over the state of Victoria.  In preparation for the 8 hour Hard Day at The Office Enduro at Eildon, I even went and bought a huge new esky to use as “race day drink bottles” only.  This was to prove very beneficial on the day.

The Inaugral Otway Odyssey

It was 6:55am Saturday morning, 3rd Feb. Apollo Bay main street was covered with mountain bikes and their riders, ready to start the 100km(officially 105km) race through the peaks and troughs of the rugged terrain of the Otways.

I was relaxed and ready to suffer anything that was put in front of me. I knew it was going to be tough, but seriously had no idea just how tough.

Riding just for F.U.N(Freedom.Unique.Neverending!)

Yesterday, just for the fun of it, Sally and I drove out to Southside.  It is the car park just up from Bells Beach.  I have ridden out here before, but only a handful of times.  Actually, Norm, Christy and I went there on Sunday for fun too!

Having told Sally how much fun we had, we headed out there for a Tuesday morning ride.  One of the pleasures of being self employed!

You start out at Southside car park and head up a gravel path that goes parallel to the road.  This is a great little heart starter with a nice incline and just slightly technical enough to get your brain working.  After about 400mts you end up on the road.  Keep travelling up the road and you will see a little track to your left.  Enter this....and enter some real heaven.

The Road to Kona 24 hour

What a great way to finish a year of racing off, by doing the Kona 24 hour SOLO.  I do however; find it amazing how many BIG endurance events there are crammed into the last few months of the year!

New to the racing scene in 2006, my husband Norm & I were like kids at a lolly shop and found it hard to resist saying no to any of these types of events that came our way.

In the lead up to the Kona 24 hour, we almost did too much preparation.

AMY'S RIDE

120km.  Norm and I were saying we would try and stay with a bunch the whole time and then it would be easy.  The weather started off good. Overcast and no noticeable wind.  Around 8:30 we were sent off in waves of about 100 riders.
